3 Things You Must Know About LNG Trailer

LNG trailer is a special semi-trailer for transporting liquefied natural gas, which is inflammable and explosive. Here are three things you must know about the LNG tanker trailer.

What is an LNG trailer?

The main component of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is methane, which is recognized as the cleanest fossil energy on earth. Liquefied natural gas is natural gas that is compressed and cooled to its freezing point (-161.5°C) and becomes liquid. Usually, liquefied natural gas is stored in a low-temperature storage tank of -161.5°C and about 0.1MPa.

LNG tanker trailer has the advantages of flexible transportation, safe and reliable, and good economy. It is widely used in the construction of various LNG application projects such as LNG vehicle filling stations, LNG vaporization stations, and LNG bottle group supply stations. LNG semi trailer consists of tank body, chassis, outriggers, traction pins, etc. Tanks are available in 30 cubic meters, 40 cubic meters, 45 cubic meters, 50 cubic meters and other specifications.

Precautions for the use of LNG tanker trailer

1. Before the LNG semi trailer enters the liquid loading area, it is necessary to check the site carefully to confirm whether there is any open flame nearby.

2. Check whether all the pipes and joints of the tanker are firm, and whether the positions of valves and electrical switches are correct.

3. When unloading, first check whether the pressure of the LNG storage tank meets the filling standard. If the pressure is too high, first pump the pressure back to the tanker, and then fill it with liquid.

4. During the loading and unloading process, the operator, driver and escort shall not leave the scene, and shall not start the vehicle at will.

5. When filling and unloading, be careful not to touch the unloading hose to prevent frostbite.

6. When filling, the maximum allowable filling volume shall not be exceeded.

7. When unloading the liquid, the liquid in the container must not be completely drained, and there must be a margin of not less than 300KG, and the residual pressure is not less than 0.1Mpa. The vehicle must be parked in accordance with the safety parking regulations to prevent unnecessary accidents.

8. After unloading, carefully check whether the emergency shut-off valve, gas phase valve and liquid phase valve are normal, and finally open the total vent valve to vent the remaining gas in the gas tank.

How to deal with emergencies in LNG semi trailer

Accident 1: The safety valve jumped when the LNG trailer was unloaded

(1) Immediately close the pressurized liquid phase valve of the LNG trailer, open the gas phase valve of the tanker pipeline, unload the tanker pressure into the pipeline network, and open the middle unloading valve to speed up the unloading;

(2) The normal operation can be continued when the pressure of the safety valve of the tanker is reduced to the standard pressure.

Accident 2: The hose ruptured when the low temperature LNG semi trailer was unloaded

(1) Immediately stop loading and unloading, open the emergency relief valve at the rear of the vehicle, close all valve switches on the vehicle, and close the pipeline inlet valve;

(2) Quickly remove the loading and unloading hose;

(3) Replace the hose and resume loading and unloading operations.

Accident 3: The tank leaked when the LNG tanker trailer was unloaded

(1) Immediately stop loading and unloading, open the emergency relief valve at the rear of the vehicle, close all valve switches on the vehicle, and close the pipeline inlet valve;

(2) Quickly remove the loading and unloading hose;

(3) Activate the fire hose of the filling station to connect the fire hydrant, and spray the water gun to the top of the tanker, the leak point, and the tire to cool down, so as to prevent the explosion caused by the sudden pressure rise;

(4) If the situation allows, the tanker can be driven out of the station area to an open area for disposal in a planned way;

(5) Immediately find ways to block the leak to prevent a large amount of liquefied natural gas from dispersing;
